Laboratory was established in 2013 as a joint initiative of the Faculty of Geology, Geophysics and Environmental Protection AGH University of Kraków and KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. The main purpose is to provide access to analythical methods for basic as well as applied science to solve specific problems faced by the raw material industry.
Laboratory of Critical Elements AGH-KGHM is equipped with Electron Microprobe Jeol SuperProbe JXA-8230 and since 2024, also in LA-ICP-MS/LIBS platform consisting of iCAP TQe ICP-MS Triple Quadrupole with ESL213 laser ablation system and ESLumen LIBS system.
Many scarce elements are
essential for the production of modern technology, including most of emerging and green technologies such as renewable energy, energy security, energy storage, electronics and many others. The European Commission has created a list of critical raw materials for the EU, combining those of high importance to the EU economy and of high risk associated with their supply.
